Summary:
The Assistant Director of Admissions serves as an integral member of the enrollment team responsible for territory management including recruitment travel and other related outreach, in addition to application assessment for admission, scholarship eligibility, and supporting daily operations. Other responsibilities include general communication with various audiences, interviews, presentations, virtual engagement, and event planning. This position is an on-campus, in-person, full-time position.
Essential Departmental Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses applications for admission based on college admission standards and goals, including eligibility for merit aid.
- Conducts interviews with prospective students, advising and guiding prospective students and families about the college admission and financial aid processes.
- Analyzes institutional and marketplace data and trends to effectively recruit from an assigned territory.
- Communicates effectively in both written and verbal form with varied audiences and partners on- and off-campus.
- Leads group information sessions and other public-speaking initiatives promoting the distinctions of the College and related topics such as the college search process. Events will be conducted both in-person and virtually.
- Increases College's brand visibility by cultivating relationships with school and independent counselors and community-based organizations.
- Coordinates and executes 6-8 weeks of travel during the fall and 2 weeks during the spring which can include high school visits, college fairs, interviews, special events and counselor meetings. Travel regularly includes both weekends and evenings. Summer travel commitments are possible but not typical.
- Participates as a member of the planning and strategy team responsible for developing all aspects of the visit experience including recruitment and yield events.
- Supports event planning and execution of on- and off-campus recruitment programs.
- Participates in on-going professional development opportunities both on and off campus, including engagement at the regional and national levels.
- Completes other duties as assigned based on individual skillsets and operational priorities. Examples include leading coordination of on-campus event planning, international recruitment, supervising student workers or volunteers, coordinating groups visiting campus, or supporting CRM/Slate operations.
Job Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university.
- 1-3 years of professional experience, college admissions experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for recruitment purposes.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Skills:
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Competence in responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively communicate information to executive management, public groups, and/or the board of trustees.
- Capability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Proficiency in interpreting various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Knowledge:
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Skilled in applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Creative and effective persuasive writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility.
- Exhibits patience, high energy, and enthusiasm.
- Adaptability and effective planning and follow-through.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Experience working with evolving technology, particularly Microsoft Office Suite and a CRM/similar database system such as Slate.

- Personal integrity and the ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
Work Environment:

Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The individual must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision.
- Position requires the ability to travel unassisted throughout the United States by various means of transportation and in all weather conditions.
