About the Position:

The Office of Graduate Studies is the central resource for graduate education on our campus. It provides leadership and support for graduate program curriculum development, offers guidance for state regulations and university policy, administers scholarship and fellowship programs for graduate students, provides academic support and services through the Graduate Studies Center in Langsdorf Hall, hosts graduate student events, provides graduate advisor support, and leads graduate student success initiatives. Working closely with campus partners, the office oversees admissions, enrollment, degree progress and graduation to provide comprehensive support for all graduate students. The Office of Graduate Studies provides support, information, and advocacy to reduce barriers, increase transparency, and enhance the graduate experience. We offer a collaborative, productive, and supportive environment, though which new team members can gain valuable skills and experience to meet their own professional goals. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Graduate Admissions Evaluator I. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Graduate Studies, this position works with an Evaluator II and works in a team to evaluate post-baccalaureate and graduate program applications to CSUF. The Evaluator I uses knowledge of university and CSU policy to determine the admissibility of applicants at a graduate level. Verifies subject requirement, GPA, test scores. Evaluates academic records to verify receipt of all transcripts, test scores, and other transferable coursework. Uses PeopleSoft/CMS to update the grades for the core requirements, GPA, admission decisions, checklist items, registration holds, and admission comments. Evaluates international transcripts and researches extensively to determine the acceptability of the institution, coursework, the country's education structure, conversion of the grading system, calculation of equivalent units and GPA, ability to receipt all required marksheets, degree certifications, translations, and English language proficiency scores. Verifies that matriculated students meet the admission requirements. May assist with ERSS reports and possible corrections needed to student academic records relating to student standing. Assists with questions from graduate advisors and students. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Completion of a formal training program in academic records evaluation or one year of academic records evaluation experience or any 12-month combination of training and experience related to academic records evaluation. Knowledge of the format and interpretation of course records and transcripts of institutions of higher education. Knowledge of authenticating course credits and comparing records of differing formats, such as foreign records. Knowledge of campus curriculum requirements for majors, minors, terminal degrees, and special program designations. Knowledge of the application of campus resource guidelines for making determinations using various criteria. Ability to be thorough, consistent, and accurate in the interpretation of records against criteria. Ability to comprehend and interpret complex regulations or requirements and to apply them in the evaluation process. Ability to maintain resources which document and update criteria. Ability to explain criteria and evaluations to others. Ability to make accurate records. Ability to organize work to meet deadlines. Ability to safeguard the confidentiality and security of records.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience working with PeopleSoft. Understanding of graduate student policies and procedures. Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelors degree in a job-related field.
