About the Role

Boston University Undergraduate Admissions seeks a Senior Assistant Director for Selection. This position works with the Associate Director for Selection to select and train a staff of part-time readers. This role serves as a resource for candidates, conducts interviews, assesses qualifications, and helps onboard new staff. This role implements a comprehensive training program for application review and helping to establish a process for ongoing training and updates throughout the reading season. The Senior Assistant Director for Selection acts as direct supervisor for around 35 part-time readers, conducts weekly meetings, establishes realistic reading goals, assesses productivity, and ensures that accurate weekly hours are submitted. The position manages a domestic recruitment territory and will travel to that territory for about 3-4 weeks, focused mainly on the fall. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required at different points in the cycle, for either recruitment purposes or within our application selection process.

This role works directly with a small team including another Senior Assistant Director and an Associate Director who are responsible for managing the Seasonal Reader cohort. This position works closely with other members of the admissions team to evaluate applications.

The Senior Assistant Director of Selection's primary duties include:

  • Assisting more broadly with staff throughout the Office of Undergraduate Admissions;

  • Hiring, training, and managing the day-to-day operations for Seasonal Readers;

  • Managing own application reading and supporting staff with application file assignments.

    About the Candidate

    A Bachelor's degree and at least 3-5 years of experience, with 2+ years of management experience are required for this position. We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Possesses strong public speaking skills;

  • Is detail-oriented;

  • Can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills;

  • Is a strong written and oral communicator;

  • Can work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and;

  • Has experience with selective admissions processes and landscape.

    The department is willing to train a new candidate on the specific selection process utilized by BU Admissions, as well as the software and systems required to complete our work.
